42 FEET OF HISTORY & SERENITY
It was a typical day on Junk Bay, Hong Kong when workers showed up at the American Marine LTD factory one morning. Some were instructed to go to the warehouse and get so Yackle boards to be delivered to the woodcarvers working a new boat. These boards were laid out, hand carved to be assembled as the keel and bow stem. This boat, a new Grand Banks Alaskan 46, was just finishing the ribs and keel. Soon, the planking would be fashioned. Each plank uniquely shaped to fit side by side to fully plank the hull. With the hull completed, the boat was flipped right side up to begin hand crafting the deckhouse and interior. Few power tools were used by the shipwrights back then as they hand sculpted each piece of wood. Twin Ford Lehman, 120 hp Diesel Engines, and other systems were added. She was launched in 1970. Has had 4 owners and now named Arianna.

THE CREW
LEROY LEWIS
Leroy has been boating since the late 60’s when he began sailing Sunfish boats on a lake during the summer. Since then he has owned a variety of small boats. He taught navigation classes in the early 90’s and used the family trawler for trips around Puget Sound. In 2015, he and Betty purchased a Grand Banks Alaskan 46 – Arianna. In 2017, Leroy obtained his 100 Ton Masters license.
BETTY LEWIS
Betty is an artist, photographer, teacher and gourmet cook. She and Leroy have sailed and powered boats between Seattle and Desolation Sound for over 25 years. Betty loves cooking with fresh seafood caught and local vegetables from the small towns visited. Betty has added a true artist touch to the interior of Arianna with her artwork, decorations, and organization.
